Darkest Day by Dark One

(Disclaimed: lyrics by the group Stabbing Westward)

The roads were difficult to see at this time of night, with the moonlight held behind the clouds and the headlights dimmed with age. Daniel drove on, numbly, his right hand on the top of the steering wheel, his left hand twisting and pulling at his lengthy golden hair. Another turn, another bend in the road. On and on did the CD play.

Everything I touch, I break

His emerald eyes scanned the glistening road, a fog setting in, and his eyes glanced around, absorbing the image of the world around him as if it would be his last. The CD played on as silent tears began to slip down the perfect cheeks as the tires occasionally squeaked on the road.

Everything I touch, I break

Soon enough, the darkness and solitude in the vehicle drug up memories of his lover. Those sapphire eyes burned in the night, burned a hole in his mind, digging a trench in the brain so the image would never be lost. A sniffle and a choked sob escaped the guitarist and the vehicles velocity increased slightly as the CD played on.

So I memorized the color of your eyes as I lost myself inside you

A shaking calloused fingertip pressed the repeat button and the last song repeated and repeated once again. Visions of the couple, lying in bed together, deeply kissing and touching and that feeling of being inside the other sifted through Daniel. The feeling began at his head and it drifted to his toes, his toes that continued to hold the accelerator down. A warmth crept through Daniel, the memory of Darren encompassed in his arms, that black mass of sweaty hair against his chest. Both hands discovered the steering wheel, at 3 and 9 o'clock. The sobbing racking his lean frame.

I memorized how warm your body felt as you lay half asleep beside me

Tires screeched as Daniel's voice grew hoarse, his tenor loud and echoing in the vehicle, singing roughly along with the song. His shirt soaked with sweat, his lips quivering in depressive confusion.

I miss, God I miss waking up beside you

No one saw him beating his chest, beating his heart that was broken and dying. No saw the salty tears steadily dripping from his chin, into his lap. No one heard his screaming and suffering from the vehicle as it sped along.

I've been so alone for so long....

That tenor voice screamed his sorrow towards no one in front of him. That heart-wrenching man was somewhere else with someone else. The pain flowed through his veins as he screamed even more.

AT NIGHT I CLING TO YOU I'M SO AFRAID

AFRAID THE DAY WILL COME

AND I'LL WAKE AND FIND YOU GONE

BUT YOU PROMISE THAT YOU'D NOT ABANDON ME

AND KISSED MY FEARS AWAY...

BUT I WOKE UP TO THAT DAY....

Suddenly, the vehicle came to an abrupt halt, dead in the center of the back road, the headlights still on, the song continually playing. Daniel wiped his face and eyes with the back of right hand and threw his head against the head rest, sighed loudly and cursed. He leaned over towards his passenger seat and opened the glove compartment. He reached in with his left hand and grabbed a metal object. He sighed once again and mumbled. I knew youd never stay. "God, forgive me." He prayed and covered his eyes as tears trickled once again, held the gun to his head and pulled the trigger.

The crowd cheered and begged as Darren pranced down the backstage hallway. He grinned towards his back-up band and held his hand up, a signal that he didnt want them to play as soon as he entered the stage. The lights dimmed and a spotlight followed Darren as he smiled to the crowd and walked up to his microphone. He held his pointer finger to his lips and the audience silenced immediately, except for the random feminine hollers from the back. He cleared his throat.

"I was thinking a lot about this earlier and um...." He bowed his head and smiled, then looked up again. "Who wants Savage Garden to reunite?"

The crowd roared as it has never roared before.
