Carry on Dancing by Sunhawk

...the moonlight
shines down interstellar beams...

Music blasted and the crowd was flowing in time with the rhythm. Rainbow lights pierced flowing mist, bathing the audience and centering on a lone figure in the middle of the stage. The figure lifted a microphone to his lips and liquid song poured forth. The crowd's motions became frenzied as they recognized the song. It was "Carry on Dancing".
Daniel grinned as he listened to Darren effortlessly sing and his smile turned just a little wistful. He watched Darren's antics for a while with admiration, surely admiration he told himself, then he concentrated on controlling his savage instruments.
Darren came scampering up to him. Daniel's smile got even wider and he swung 'round his guitar, following Darren to the other side of the stage before leading Darren back the other way.
They both played up to the audience; Daniel advancing menacingly and Darren pushing him back with one hand. All this was done without Darren pausing for a second in his singing.
What a voice he's got. Daniel thought with respect. Must be great to be able to sing like that.
Darren seemed to read his mind for a moment, for he glanced back at Daniel before letting a haunting cry tear through the air and audience, making echoing ripples all around...

...and the groove tonight
is something more than you've ever seen...

...A door slammed, echoing emptily and breaking Daniel out of his half-trance. He had been detuning his guitars to get them ready for travel and he had lost track of time.
Daniel realized, as he looked around, that the hall was completely empty. One of Darren's microphones caught his eye and Daniel found himself slowly moving towards it. He stood at the front of the stage, trying to imagine every empty seat filled with a person and himself being the center of their attention.
Daniel picked up the microphone and held it loosely in his hand. He brought it up to his face.
"Test?" He spoke hesitantly, startled by how much his voice was amplified and echoing. The guitarist hadn't know the microphone was still on.
Feeling a little self-conscious, Daniel quickly glanced around to make sure no one was nearby. He haltingly tried a few bars of "Carry on Dancing" but he belatedly realized he couldn't hit all the high notes that Darren could.
Daniel's thoughts dissolved for a moment into pure musical theory as he changed the key to match his deeper voice. He cleared his throat and started singing again, closing his eyes in concentration...

...stars and planets taking shape
a stolen kiss has come too late...

...Darren sat restlessly, drumming his fingers on the bench he was lounging on.
What is taking Daniel so long? He wondered. Darren abruptly stood up, looking around.
I need a drink. He walked back into the concert hall, looking for a water bottle machine.
Suddenly a blast of singing hit Darren like a slap in the face.
Who. Is. That? He thought dazedly. It's Carry on Dancing!
The rich baritone made Darren shiver and he found himself irresistibly drawn towards the stage.
Darren crept quietly past the empty seats and looked up to see the singer was tall and blond.
Daniel! He realized, his eyes widening in shock. Darren froze for a moment then reactively started singing the harmony, the notes flowing out before he could stop them...

...in the moonlight...

...Daniel's concentration was suddenly shattered as he heard another voice join his, a very familiar voice, and his eyes flew open, his voice faltering to a stop.
Daniel looked down in surprise at Darren. He felt his cheeks burn and realized he was blushing (rather odd) as he looked at the wonder in Darren's eyes.
Darren's hand crept up in a gesture of entreaty. He whispered.
"Carry on Dan...sing!"
