Hey, Baby by SG
(Disclaimed: 'Hey Baby', Bryan Adams)
Daniel slipped his guitar back in the case. He felt better and more confident than he had in awhile. Like he knew what he was doing and why he was doing it. It had been a long time since his life had made sense to him.
He played the CD back that he had just made, trying not to wince when he heard his voice. It was worth it he reminded himself. Maybe now Darren would understand.
Hey, Baby, you want to be free
You got to get out and chase all your dreams
There ain't no point in you waiting for me
Hey, Baby, you want to be free
Daniel smiled wistfully. He closed his eyes and let himself get lost in the music. When the song ended, he took the CD out and placed it in the case. After writing a quick note, he slid it into the waiting envelope. He sighed and nodded to himself. "Okay."
Hey, Baby, it's gonna be fine
You going your way and me going mine
We'll be together somewhere down the line
Hey, Baby, it's gonna be fine
Darren was sifting through the mail when a manila envelope with Daniel's handwriting on it caught his attention. He narrowed his eyes suspiciously before tearing into the letter. He reached in and pulled out a CD and a piece of paper.
Darren,
I hope you understand now.
Daniel
Hey, Baby, you got to give it a try
Hey, Baby, spread out your wings and just fly
Hey, Baby, you know that I'm on your side
Darren had to admit that his curiosity was peaked. Things had been strained to say the least between them lately. The last thing he had expected was this. With a shrug he put it in the player and waited.
Hey, Baby, you better take care
Harden your heart
Cause it's lonely out there
It won't be easy and it won't be fair
Hey, Baby, you better take care
He heard the lone guitar and smiled. But when he heard Daniel's voice, clear and self-assured, his breath caught. He focused intently on the lyrics, his eyes slowly misting over.
Hey, Baby, you've got to give it a try
Hey, Baby, spread out your wings and just fly
Hey, Baby, you know that I'm on your side
Long after the song had ended, Darren sat there in shocked silence. When he was finally able to move, he picked up the phone and dialed Daniel's number.
Hey, Baby, you got to be strong
You've had this feeling inside all along
Can only deny yourself for so long
Hey, Baby, you got to be strong
The phone rang twice before the answering machine picked it up. Darren listened to the familiar words with a lump in his throat. He took a deep breath and left his message.
"Hey, Baby... I understand."
